2026 Israel Import Tax Rules

Israel uses a CIF-based valuation. Following the 2025/2026 budget updates, the tax landscape for personal importers has changed significantly.

Calculation Sequence:

  1. Exemption Check: If the goods’ value (FOB) is < $150, duties and VAT are generally waived for personal use.
  2. Customs Duty: Applied to the CIF value.
  3. Purchase Tax: Calculated on (CIF + Duty).
  4. VAT (18%): Calculated on (CIF + Duty + Purchase Tax).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the $150 Exemption?

Starting in 2026, the tax exemption threshold for personal imports was doubled to $150. This threshold applies to the value of the goods only; shipping and insurance are not included in determining if you qualify for the exemption, but they are included in the tax base if you exceed it.

Why is VAT 18%?

The Israeli government increased VAT from 17% to 18% effective January 1, 2025, to balance the national budget, and this remains the rate for 2026.
